Buckets!! We use them for collecting dishwashing water to flush our toilets. We have an additional bucket in our shower, to collect soapy water we might miss for cleaning floors, I just add a bit of vinegar. Humidifier water is great way to reuse for watering our veggies, we make sure our facets are closed and not leaking. Laundry gets done in big loads to avoid waste. Dishwasher only gets run when is completly full, but for the most part handwashing to converse water.
We discovered as a family, a hidden water source from the air conditioner, purely condensate water.
It’s easy to do and the water collection throughout the day fills a 5 gallon pail!
There are so many wonderful ways to conserve water!
We are working diligently to conserve water in numerous ways .. I’ve layered mulch in the flower beds to hold the moisture , collecting as much rain water as possible. We are also use the grey water from showering /dishes / bathroom sink water to water plants.
I removed the clear drain tubing from the central air conditioning unit attached to our furnace which was draining directly into the sewer from our home. I just lifted the clear air conditioner drain pipe out of the pipe draining into the sewer and placed it into a 5 gallon pail. In a matter of 24 hours we are collecting 5 gallons (+ or – a quart) of clear water for our outdoor plants. Such an effortless means of conserving valuable water during difficult times of water shortage.
We are pleased to have a new sponsor on board our Water Conservation Challenge in Morden! I conserving water buy using the water from my 2 rain barrels plus I am saving water from showers, washing/rinsing dishes, washing hands and using that water for my garden, flushing… So far this season, I have not using any town water for watering plants it’s all water that I have saved!
Sometimes, we plug our bathtub when we shower, and run a hose from the bathtub, through our upstairs window and into our garden.
